Since just days after the war in Ukraine started in February 2022, PETA Germany and its partners have been risking it all to save animals in need. From flooding to missile strikes, Global Compassion Fund–backed teams have risked it all to help Ukraine’s animals. Meet some of the beautiful souls who now have a second chance at life because of your support.
When a missile exploded in Chasiv Yar, Ukraine, Amur’s hiding place caught fire. Fortunately, a kind civilian helped this dog escape the flames unscathed, except for some burnt fur. His rescuer provided him with affection and a safe place to recover while he waited for additional help. When a PETA-backed team from Animal Rescue Kharkiv arrived, the canine—who had grown attached to his rescuers—was wary, but he soon warmed up to his new friends.
See how Amur’s life has changed for the better since the team arrived to help him and other animals:
Now Amur and other animals rescued from the war zone are safe in Animal Rescue Kharkiv’s shelter, where they receive veterinary care and enjoy walks and lots of affection.
