But First, What Is The People’s Fund?
The People’s Fund aims to address racial inequity in philanthropy by redistributing wealth in our movement and transforming the underlying structures and norms that entrench inequity. To date, we have distributed $1,155,000 in funding to 29 leaders and organizations. We believe it’s time to disrupt and democratize philanthropy.
Breaking Boundaries: Our Grantee Veggie Mijas
A long-time valued partner, Veggie Mijas is made up of people from diverse backgrounds who are dedicated to raising awareness about the lack of healthy options in underserved communities and promoting animal protection and environmental justice.
The “women, trans, and gender non-conforming people” of Veggie Mijas unite to promote plant-based lifestyles and advocate for food justice in marginalized areas. Their core belief in the strength of community drives their enthusiasm for establishing inclusive environments, particularly in supporting BIPOC groups. These spaces are hubs for genuine connections, shared learning, and collective contributions to a more sustainable future. This sense of unity propels change, empowering everyone and steering their mission to bring people together and care for our planet.
