Animal Justice is a national animal law advocacy organization, focused on improving laws and policies to protect animals in Canada. Our team works to pass strong new animal laws at all levels of government, ensures industries and corporations are held accountable for abusing animals, and fights for animals in courtrooms across the country. 

We seek an enthusiastic and driven digital marketing specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will be passionate about improving protections for animals, and will be responsible for building digital support for Animal Justice’s work.

Position Specifics

Position type: Full time, Permanent

Reports to: Communications Manager

Location: Remote or hybrid at Animal Justice’s Toronto office; must be legally permitted to work in Canada.

Salary: $70,000 – $80,000 per year (commensurate with years of experience) 

Position Duties

  • Assist in the development and implementation of Animal Justice’s digital communication and fundraising strategy.
  • Build clear messages and compelling narratives that work across platforms.
  • Create written content for Animal Justice’s website, action campaigns, blog, and social media platforms, optimized for search engines using SEO.
  • Analyze metrics across platforms to evaluate the effectiveness of communications and digital marketing strategies, using Google Analytics and social media performance reports to derive actionable insights and improve future campaigns.
  • Assist Animal Justice team members with special communications projects, providing strategic insights and support.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of email marketing strategies, including the creation and distribution of emails and analyzing the results of A/B testing
  • Run advertising campaigns with Google and Meta ads to increase campaign effectiveness and grow our supporter base.
  • Assist in the communication and marketing of special events, including fundraisers, parties, and conferences.
  • Stay informed on the latest trends in digital marketing and fundraising, incorporating new strategies and technologies to improve outreach and effectiveness.
  • Assist with Animal Justice’s online shop.
  • Work collaboratively with other teams on shared goals, including fundraising/development, legal, and campaigns.
  • Help prepare monthly marketing reports to share with the broader team.
  • Maintain strong relationships with supporters and colleagues at other organizations.
  • Travel as necessary to assist with campaigns and events.
  • Such other communication tasks as assigned from time to time.

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in marketing, communications, or a related field
  • At least five years of experience in digital marketing and communications
  • Proficiency in Google Ads and Meta Ads, including campaign creation, optimization, and analysis
  • Expertise in email marketing and familiarity with CRM systems, preferably Engaging Networks
  • Strong understanding of Google Analytics for tracking and reporting on website performance
  • In-depth knowledge of SEO best practices and strategies, including keyword optimization and technical SEO (site structure, crawlability, indexing, site speed, and schema markup)
  • Excellent written communication skills with experience in creating and editing compelling content, particularly SEO-optimized blog posts and supporter emails
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to multitask and meet tight deadlines
  • Ability to analyze data and create actionable insights to improve marketing strategies
  • Strategic thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Familiarity with or willingness to learn about animal advocacy
  • Fundraising experience is a valuable asset
  • Familiarity with WordPress website publishing platform
  • Proficiency in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript is a valuable asset
