Sweden is currently allowing the slaughter of 486 wild brown bears, which constitutes a shocking 20% of the country’s remaining population. This practice, which has already seen more than 150 bears killed in just the opening days, is nothing short of a brutal massacre and poses a severe threat to the survival of the entire Scandinavian brown bear population.
Brown bears were once on the brink of extinction in Sweden. Luckily, they have been making a remarkable recovery over the past 100 years, thanks to conservation efforts. In fact, brown bears are listed as a “strictly protected species” in the EU. But the current hunting quotas threaten to undo this progress.
We must act now to halt this senseless slaughter. Sign the petition to demand an immediate ban on Sweden’s annual bear cull!
This mass killing is not only inhumane but also unnecessary. The Swedish government’s actions have sparked outrage among wildlife advocates, who argue that there are far less cruel and more effective methods for managing bear populations. Conservationists warn that such high culling rates could drive the population close to the minimum threshold required for its viability.
On top of that, the ways these bears are being killed is truly harrowing. Previously, it was illegal for hunters to use bait and dogs to lure wildlife in and tear them apart. Now, Sweden is allowing these sickening practices again – making the culling process an exercise in sadistic slaughter, rather than a managed wildlife conservation effort.
The current approach disregards the need for ethical wildlife management and conservation. There are numerous alternatives to culling that can help manage bear populations without resorting to mass killing. Sweden should explore these humane options instead of continuing this devastating practice.
The survival of Sweden’s brown bears depends on our collective action. Let’s stand up for these magnificent creatures and push for a more compassionate and effective approach to wildlife management.
Join us in calling on the Swedish government to immediately halt the ongoing bear hunt and revoke all hunting licenses issued for this year. Instead, it must invest in and implement humane alternatives for population management! Sign the petition now and help us protect Sweden’s brown bears from this cruel and unnecessary hunt!
