Dogs rely on their families for love and support. They cannot fend for themselves, nor should they have to! When a dog is adopted, the family is contracted to take care of them forever. However, some soulless individuals don’t take this vow seriously. Many rejected dogs end up in shelters or even abandoned on the streets. It’s a heartbreaking reality and animal advocates are forced to pick up the pieces. Today’s story focuses on one dog who was dealt a losing hand. He was given up by the people he loved most.

Rooney, a seven-year-old dog, had never known the loneliness of a shelter until his family left him at one shortly after his seventh birthday. Lone Star Dog Ranch & Dog Ranch Rescue revealed on Facebook that Rooney’s family surrendered him because they were expecting a baby and claimed they could no longer give him the attention he needed.

Suddenly, Rooney found himself in an unfamiliar, dark shelter environment, surrounded by strangers and other frightened dogs. The Facebook post highlighted the grim reality of the shelter, noting, “Dogs can smell the fear in the building, they can smell the [euthanasia] of dogs that have to be euthanized due to the incredible lack of space that every single shelter is dealing with.” Rooney’s world had crumbled, leaving him without any semblance of joy.

Fortunately, the team from Dog Ranch Rescue, a non-profit organization in Anna, Texas, learned about Rooney’s plight and decided to intervene. An employee named Ricky quickly went to rescue him. Upon arriving at the shelter, Ricky scooped Rooney up, placed him in the car, and drove him to their facility. The staff at the rescue was heartbroken upon seeing Rooney’s depressed demeanor.

However, their sadness quickly turned to anger, as expressed in a vehement Facebook post. “I am so sick and tired of people ‘getting rid of their dogs’ because you had a baby, a change in your life, blah blah blah blah blah…” the post read. “I know some are more compassionate about it than I am but I’m just not…” The author of the post also directly addressed Rooney’s former owner, questioning whether the owner felt remorse or quickly forgot about Rooney after leaving him.

The post concluded by welcoming Rooney to their facility and promising to find him a new home where he would not be betrayed again. While Rooney is still healing from the deep emotional scars, there is hope that he will recover and enjoy many more years of happiness in a loving home, as he truly deserves.
