Cultivated meat is made directly from animal cells, so the result is real meat that did not come from a slaughtered animal. This new product—known as GOOD Meat 3—contains 3% cultivated meat mixed with plant proteins for a more affordable option. Josh Tetrick, co-founder and CEO of GOOD Meat parent company Eat Just, stated:

This is a historic day, for our company, for the cultivated meat industry, and for Singaporeans who want to try GOOD Meat 3. Before today, cultivated meat had never been available in retail stores for regular people to buy, and now it is. This year, we will sell more servings of cultivated chicken than have been sold in any year prior. At the same time, we know there is much more work to be done to prove that cultivated meat can be made at large scale, and we remain focused on that objective.

Throughout 2024, shoppers can find GOOD Meat 3 in the freezer section of Huber’s Butchery priced at S$7.20 for a 120-gram package. Huber’s executive director, Andre Huber, said:

Having the latest version of GOOD Meat 3 cultivated chicken available for retail is another step in this journey to make cultivated meat available to a bigger audience. People will have the opportunity to prepare the product the way they want and experience how it can fit in to their home cooked meals. We look forward to hearing feedback from our discerning customers so that we can work with GOOD Meat to continuously improve the product.

In 2020, GOOD Meat received the world’s first regulatory approval for a cultivated meat product. At the time, Tetrick said, “I’m sure that our regulatory approval for cultured meat will be the first of many in Singapore and in countries around the globe.”

Despite the multitude of problems associated with the animal agriculture industry, not all consumers are willing to switch to plant-based meat. This is why making real animal meat from cells is so important. Even if cultivated meat isn’t for you, it has enormous potential to foster positive global change and spare billions of animals a life of suffering at factory farms.

But there’s no need to wait for cultivated meat to start making a difference for animals! Tons of delicious plant-based options are already available at a grocery store near you. For fantastic vegan meal ideas and recipes, download a FREE How to Eat Veg guide today.
