The Chief Spokesperson for Montgomery County (MD) Fire & Rescue Service, Pete Piringer revealed that the fire incident happened on Monday, April 15.

The electrical fire started in the basement of a single-family house on Green Pasture Drive in Rockville. Luckily, the fire was extinguished and no one was injured.

Molly’s owner, Charles Miller, told WUSA9 that when the fire broke out, his wife was upstairs taking care of their 14-month-old granddaughter.

Miller explained that Molly might’ve been on the couch, saw the smoke, and ran up to alert Mrs. Miller.

“When Molly starts banging on the doors with her paws, you know something is wrong,” Miller said.

And thanks to Molly’s prompt response, Mrs. Miller, along with their granddaughter and Molly, were all able to get out of the house safe.

Miller praised his dog and said, “Yeah, she’s the hero. She’s like unbelievable.”

The proud owner later revealed that Molly was actually trained to be a guide dog for the non-profit organization “Guiding Eyes for the Blind” but didn’t make it to the final cut.

“She didn’t pass the cut for whatever they look for,” Miller added.

Miller added that the smoke alarms at their home never went off. And officials said that prior to the fire accident, the neighborhood just experienced a power outage which might’ve played a role in the fire.

While the family was safe, they were displaced. And fire officials revealed that cost of the damage exceeds $200,000.

“I am blessed. You know, material stuff don’t mean nothing to us. And it will all get rebuilt and it will all be forgotten in a year from now.”
